Review of Tomes of Taria: Kaylen’s Rising by Yves Robichaud

Tomes of Taria: Kaylen’s Rising by Yves Robichaud

In Yves Robichaud’s new release we meet Kaylen, a cave elf in the troubled subterranean land of Caverna.

Though Kaylen has lived a content life with his parents, he sees other teens living a less-sheltered existence, and questions begin to nag.

Why has he never gone to school? What exists beyond the sheltered world of his home?

Kaylen’s story begins in a garden, and as often happens with gardens, discord enters. This event causes Kaylen to question his parents, and challenge their decisions. They realize it is time for Kaylen to attend school.

Attending school, though, brings more questions than answers. Kaylen learns the history of his people, truths about his parents, and is forced to confront both his own, and others’ strengths and weaknesses.

This action-packed fantasy will appeal to all audiences. It has all the ingredients of a proper magical fantasy: suspense, intrigue, atmosphere, and identifiable characters. It also has a bit more. Kaylen’s journey to self-awareness is finely woven through his exciting adventures. Readers of all ages will enjoy this fantastical coming-of-age tale.
